There it is! David’s heart of faith and praise winning the day. In the verses prior to these, David fully expresses his doubt that God is with him and working on his behalf. His honest talk with the Shepherd shows us a soul that feels abandoned, confused, and is deep in sorrow. Taking advice from his soul was proving of no use. Then comes his admission, “I need to see the light. Shepherd, what is really true?”

His words express thoughts of a God who was not who he said he was but who David’s mind was creating based on his broken heart.
