Moving From Sorrow To Trust And Joy - Part 3

Psalm 13 (a Psalm of David)

5 But I have trusted in Your lovingkindness; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
6 I will sing to the Lord, Because He has dealt bountifully with me.

There it is! David’s heart of faith and praise winning the day. In the verses prior to these, David fully expresses his doubt that God is with him and working on his behalf. His honest talk with the Shepherd shows us a soul that feels abandoned, confused, and is deep in sorrow. Taking advice from his soul was proving of no use. Then comes his admission, “I need to see the light. Shepherd, what is really true?”

“David, My son, remember My abundant lovingkindness? My compassionate salvation? My merciful, gracious favor? Remember, you are in good hands; you have trusted Me before.”

When the light dawns, David pushes the lies away without delay and makes an amazing decision to focus his soul on God’s bountiful goodness. Out bursts a song declaring, “I have trusted in your mercy, I will rejoice, I will sing for you have indeed been good to me!”

This is David’s third and final step to get his heart moving from sorrow to trust and joy.  He allows his faith to engage in the goodness of the Shepherd, and the whole experience turned around! Praise, joy, a new perspective… he was stepping into a refreshing new day.

Saved child of God, you have much to rejoice over. You are His beloved. You have a Shepherd who cares for you because you are His, and your name is written on His hand. You are never without Him as your source for living, and you are never alone. So go ahead...believe the truth in your heart! Rejoice and rest in His goodness for you!
